
Mrs. Lee’s Physical Science class was challenged to create a slow marble run. Students were split into two groups to construct the run, and the marble run with the slowest time would win. Students had to think about what kind of friction would slow down the marble and what would accelerate it.

The Cumberland County Broadband Committee is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 5:30 PM at the Cumberland County Life Center Building, 507 E Main Street, Toledo, Illinois.
The committee has developed a survey to demonstrate the overall need for reliable and affordable broadband. This meeting will help residents better understand the committee’s mission and goals and explain how you can help encourage participation in the survey and the BEAD challenge. The CHS Wrestling team had four individuals qualify for the IHSA State Meet today! Owen McGinnis placed 3rd and Braydon Olmstead placed 4th at the Boys' Sectional. They will compete at State next weekend. Natalie Beaumont placed 3rd and Summer Nichols placed 4th at the Girls' Sectional. They advance to State on February 23-24. Congratulations to all!

The Lady Pirates advanced to the second round of the IHSA Regional after defeating Lawrenceville today 54-22! They now play Mt. Carmel on Monday, Feb. 12, at 6 PM at Lawrenceville. Go Pirates!

Tomorrow's boys' basketball game at Decatur Unity will be a Varsity-only game beginning at 6 PM.

Reminder: Cumberland schools will dismiss at 12:15 on Friday, February 9, for a teacher in-service.


Cumberland High School will host the first round of the IHSA girls' basketball regional on Saturday, February 10. Cumberland will play Lawrenceville at 10 AM. This game will not be live-streamed per IHSA policy. Come out and cheer on the Lady Pirates to victory!

Students in Ms. Flach's Biology I class made candy DNA models today. The Twizzlers represent the sugar-phosphate backbone and the gummy bears represent the different base pairs of the nucleotides.




On Saturday, the Cumberland High School Scholastic Bowl team placed 2nd at the EIU Pine Honors Tournament. Rylan James was selected for the All-Tournament team. Congratulations to all!

Mrs. Lee’s Consumer Math class is learning to figure out the rate of speed. They used the Hot Wheel cars and track to figure the rate of speed of each car.

Mrs. Lee’s physical science class is studying Newton’s Law of motion. This includes kinetic and potential energy, friction, force, and acceleration. The students split into groups and built marble runs and then discussed what was happening using their vocabulary terms.

The high school girls basketball game vs Sullivan that was canceled due to weather has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 7, at 6:00 PM (Varsity Only).

Any 8th-11th grade student interested in participating in high school cheerleading for the 2024-2025 season needs to sign up in the school office and get an interest form. The forms need to be filled out and turned back into the office by Friday, 1/26, at 2 PM.
