In Biology this week, Mrs. Steber's students have been learning how to use light microscopes and using them to investigate plant cell structure.

We wrapped up bus evacuation practice this week. Our students did a great job listening and learning. Thank you to our transportation team for keeping us prepared!

Mr. Horath's class is discussing and debating the use of foreshadowing before the ending in Of Mice and Men this week in English I. They said that if you haven't read the novel by John Steinbeck, you should!

It was a circus at CHS today!

Check out what the Foods 3 students cooked up recently! Apple fritters, anyone?

Mattoon schools set aside a day each year for community service. Today, LIFT students, including participants from Cumberland and surrounding districts, chose to clean the interior of our school buses as their service project. With their help, our buses are looking great! We appreciate their kind gesture!

Several CHS seniors visited Lake Land College on Career Day. They received valuable information about careers and had the opportunity to visit a college fair. Students also enjoyed visiting the food trucks on campus for lunch.

In Ms. Steber's Earth Science class, students completed an activity studying how the frequency of color affects how quickly plastic reacts under a heat lamp. This illustrates how frequency works, allowing the students to relate it to the Doppler Effect when studying objects in space!

A favorite concession stand item was the theme of today's homecoming spirit day! The students had some great costumes!

Today in Mrs. Lee’s class, the students talked with people in Germany, Switzerland, Florida, Portugal, Atlanta, Georgia, and Tennessee using Google Meet and FaceTime! They asked each person what time it was where they were and then tried to figure out their location on the map.
The class was amazed that it was 7:00 PM and dark in Germany while it was 12:00 noon here! Learning about time zones was so much fun!
A huge thank you to everyone who took time out of their day (and evening!) to call in and help the students learn. You made the lesson extra special! 💫

Happy National Coaches Day! Thank you to all of our coaches for the time and dedication you give to our student-athletes!

The Foods 3 students received guidance from their guest, Patty Murray, last week. She taught students techniques to decorate cupcakes. These skills will be used in their upcoming Cupcake Wars! We look forward to seeing their final projects! 🧁

The Cumberland FFA traveled to Neoga to compete in the Ag Sales and Job Interview CDEs. Kaitlyn Hemmen, Rory Watkins, Sadie Colnar, and Willow Sowers competed in Ag Sales, and Ellie Strader competed in Job Interview. Congratulations to Sadie Colnar for placing 2nd in her room and to Kaitlyn Hemmen for placing 3rd in her room!

CGB has forfeited the October 24th football game. We have been unsuccessful in finding a new opponent. So, we will be taking the forfeit and will not be playing in week 9.

The Foods I classes went on a field trip to Greenville today. They toured Marcoot Jersey Creamery, where students enjoyed cheese samples and seeing the cows. Then, they ate lunch at Joe's Pizza & Pasta. The final stop was the Milk House, where they indulged in homemade ice cream with waffle chips. It was a fun, yummy, and educational day!
