On January 5th the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) will recognize Cumberland High School as one of the few consolidated high schools that have surpassed the 1000 win mark for boys basketball. We would like to invite all past/present players, coaches, and fans to attend this event that will take place between the JV and Varsity games that evening.

Athens (Mrs. Peters’ class) won the competition. In the afternoon, the students participated in a STEM Museum. They worked together to create various items from the myths that they read. They walked through the other classrooms to view all the creations. To end the day, they created and enjoyed Olympic cookies!

The first grade listened to the book Balloons on Broadway, which tells the history of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and how a Macy’s employee, Tony Sarg, who was originally hired to create marionettes for Macy’s window, is credited with creating the first balloons for what has become an annual parade event. Students created a timeline, answered comprehension questions, watched videos about how the balloons were created, and then created their own balloon creations for their first Thanksgiving parade! Special thanks to our parade attendees!
