What to do when you see a school bus:
SLOW DOWN: Yellow flashing lights means the bus is preparing to stop!
STOP COMPLETELY: You MUST come to a complete stop when the red lights are flashing and/or the stop arm is extended. This applies to traffic in BOTH directions.
WAIT TO PROCEED: DO NOT begin moving until the red lights are off, stop arm is retracted and the bus begins to move.
BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS: Children are at the highest risk in the area around a school bus, often called the “danger zone”. They can be unpredictable and may dart into the street.
What to avoid:
NEVER pass on the right: This is the side where children enter and exit the bus, and it is illegal and can be fatal.
AVOID Distractions: Stay focused on the road AT ALL TIMES! Avoid using electronic devices.
Legal Requirement: All states require drivers to stop for a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.

In observance of Labor Day, there will be no school on Monday, September 1.

As the Class of 2000 celebrates its 25th reunion, we’re proud to highlight five of the class's alumni who have come full circle; each returning to work at Cumberland! Pictured are Ali Dunn, paraprofessional; Dawn Peters, district nurse; Tera Scales, special education teacher; Erin James-St. John, district bookkeeper, and Lisa Harris, special education teacher. Once a Pirate, always a Pirate!
